The Margarita has somehow become a bizarre category of drinks, not a drink unto itself. Somehow, the general public perceives any cocktail with tequila and citrus in it to be a margarita. And what's more, they are often served in a sickly sweet, neon green fashion, filling up an entire fish bowl on your bar top.

Today, we explore what a margarita is, and the broader category it actually belongs to.

The Margarita

1.5 oz tequila

1 oz triple-sec

0.5 oz lime juice

Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake and strain into a salt rimmed (optional) glass. top with ice (also optional) and a lime wheel
